SEMINAR PROGRAMME

OVERVIEW

Many orthodontic practitioners still adhere to the genetic aetiology of malocclusion while overlooking myofunctional causes and poor breathing patterns which have been well documented since the time of Dr Edward Angle.

Now in the 21st century many doctors have realised that orthodontic techniques which ignore function and breathing are limited to permanent retention and also the extraction of permanent teeth. That alone will narrow the arches causing detrimental facial changes which are a concern to parents.

At present many doctors worldwide are using the myofunctional appliance systems combined with breathing retraining. The benefits of improved facial development, non extraction treatment and real stability are being experienced by patients around the world who are treated following the approach presented in this seminar.

The concept is now to treat function first and teeth last. "Expand the maxilla to fit the tongue not just the teeth". Once the maxilla is big enough to contain the tongue we need to train the tongue to support this new shape in which case nasal breathing is essential.

Dr. John Flutter has developed a postural correction and breathing retraining programme that has been delivered to over five hundred children in the last five years and will through this seminar share his knowledge and provide practical implementation guidelines.
